HTS classification guide
How HTS codes are structured
An HTS code becomes more specific as you move from the first two digits toward the full ten-digit tariff line.
From chapter to tariff line
Digits 1–2 identify the chapter. Digits 3–4 identify the heading. Digits 5–6 identify the internationally harmonized subheading.
Digits 7–8 identify the US tariff-rate line, while digits 9–10 provide further statistical detail when applicable.
Read the hierarchy, not only the number
A code should be interpreted together with its section notes, chapter notes, heading text, and relevant classification rules. Similar products can fall under different codes because of their material, function, composition, or intended use.
Use the breadcrumbs on Drip Capital’s code pages to move from a tariff line back to its subheading, heading, chapter, and section.
