HTS classification guide
HTS codes vs. Schedule B numbers
HTS codes and Schedule B numbers both extend the six-digit Harmonized System, but they support different US trade flows.
Imports use the HTS
The Harmonized Tariff Schedule is used to classify products imported into the United States. It connects the product classification to customs duty rates and other import requirements.
Exports use Schedule B
Schedule B numbers are administered by the US Census Bureau and are primarily used to report exports from the United States.
The first six digits may match, but the final US-specific digits can differ. Always use the classification system required for the direction of trade.
